Stephen Upshaw announces new venture – and new Cambridge date

We’re delighted to announce that Stephen Upshaw has joined the Solem Quartet as their new violist. Stephen, a native of Atlanta, made his concerto debut at 17 and went on to win several competitions and to play in festivals around the world. He completed his postgraduate studies in the class of David Takeno at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Alongside his love of chamber music, Stephen has a particular interest in contemporary music and is a member of Riot Ensemble, whose recent disc Speak Be Silent was selected as one of The New Yorker Magazine’s best of 2019. Stephen plays a viola by Daniel Parker of London c 1715-20, which we acquired on his behalf in 2014.

Stephen will be performing with The Solem Quartet at Kettle’s Yard on Thursday 12th March – see further details here.
